It’s not every day that one receives a S.C. Senate Resolution, but two Fairfield County men have done just that.
Barbeque Pit Masters and “Can’t Quit Smokin’” teammates George King (right) and Gary Freeman (left) were honored last month at the Winnsboro office of District 17 Senator Creighton Coleman for earning the title, “2011 S.C. State Champion Barbecue Team.”
In order to name a champion, the S.C. Barbecue Association conducts a yearlong contest over the entire state of S.C. through more than 30 different barbeque events. Each team amasses points, depending on the team’s placement in the contests. The total points are tallied each year, and the team with the highest number of points is the winner of the 2011 S.C. Barbecue Association Master Barbeque Competition Award, this year so tastily captured by the Can’t Quit Smokin’ team after competing against 181 other teams.
