Dutch Fork Snaps Lady Bengals’ Streak

The Lady Bengals (6-3) basketball team had their three-game winning streak snapped Dec. 11 by defending state champ Dutch Fork (5-0), 46-28. Blythewood was right in the thick of things at the half trailing only 21-19, but the Lady Silver Foxes were able to overwhelm the Lady Bengals in the second half. Blythewood head coach Steve Inabinet knew it would be a challenge to face the reigning state champs.

“We knew going in we were going to have to play hard,” he said. “The first half was good but in the second half we just lost our composure a little bit.”

The Lady Bengals leading scorer was senior Kierra Brown with 12 points with 10 of those coming in the first half. For Dutch Fork, they were led by their 6-foot 5-inch star post player Alaina Coates with 20 points including 14 in the second half. After the game Inabinet talked about how difficult it was to matchup with Coates stature.

“You have to have someone as big as she is,” he said. “She is a good player and she made some good baskets.”

Blythewood is in the middle of an 11-day stretch where they’ll play five games.
