Lady Bengals Falter vs. Dutch Fork, Rebound at Lancaster

On Nov. 29, the Blythewood girls’ basketball team was saddled with the tough challenge of facing the defending state champion Lady Silver Foxes of Dutch Fork. Despite being without their star post player Alaina Coates, Dutch Fork defeated Blythewood 59-30. Blythewood head coach Steve Inabinet fully expected a competitive game from the defending state champs.

“We knew going in it was going to be tough,” he said. “We just couldn’t get anything going on offense or defense.”

Senior guard Kierra Brown led the way in scoring for the Lady Bengals with 13 points.

In spite of that loss, the Lady Bengals rebounded on Tuesday night with a 56-46 win at Lancaster. Blythewood led by as many as 14 in the game but Lancaster cut it to four with five minutes to play. Inabinet said that clutch free throws at the end were the difference for the Lady Bengals.

“We were a perfect four-of-four at the line to seal the game,” he said.

Blythewood had three players in double digits with Breelyn Blanding posting a game high 23. Aaliyah Keels and Kierra Brown followed that up with 14 and 11 respectively. With the win the Lady Bengals are now 4-2 and will host Rock Hill on Friday with tip-off set for 6:45 p.m.
