McManus No-Hits Shamrocks

Fairfield Central’s Stanley McManus kicks up a cloud of dust sliding in safely at home against Columbia Friday.

Stanley McManus (1-0) tossed a no-hitter for Fairfield Central Tuesday night as the Griffins blanked Eau Claire 14-0 in five innings. McManus struck out 13 Shamrocks and issued no free passes, facing just two over the minimum. The Griffin hurler also went 1-for-3 at the plate with a triple.

Compton Walker went 2-for-2 on the night, with a double, an RBI, two stolen bases and a pair of runs scored. Markell Whitaker went 1-for-2 with an RBI, a stolen base and two runs. Javarius Cook went 1-for-3 with a triple and Nick Goins went 1-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and a run.

The win makes the Griffins 2-2 overall and 2-0 in region play. Griffin starters have gassed 23 batters in the last two games, while the offense has scored 28 runs.

Friday night, the Griffins dealt Columbia High School a pounding, 14-3, in the Capital City. Walker earned the win for the Griffins, giving up two hits, a pair of walks while striking out an impressive 10 batters in five innings of work.

Whitaker went 2-for-4 at the plate for Fairfield, driving in a pair of runs. McManus went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, three stolen bases while crossing the plate twice. Chris Raley went a perfect 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Griffins.

The last two outings mark a reversal of fortune for the Griffins who fell in their March 6 crosstown showdown with Richard Winn Academy. The Eagles punished the Griffins 15-3 at Fairfield. Walker lasted only two innings, giving up two hits and two earned runs while striking out two and walking three. Brandon Adams came on in relief in the third and worked two innings. Adams, who was saddled with the loss, gave up seven runs, all earned, on four hits and three walks while striking out a pair and hitting one batter. McManus closed out the game for the Griffins, going two innings and giving up six runs (one earned) on one hit and four walks. McManus also plunked one batter.

McManus went 1-for-3 at the plate with a triple and one RBI. Cook went 1-for 2 with one run and a stolen base. Whitaker went 1-for-2 with one run and a stolen base.
