Bengal Golfers Win Region, Howell Tops Invitational

The BHS golf team: Sam Moore, Ben Jansen, Bryce Howell and Cole Hargett, region champs.

The perfectly manicured course and ideal weather, coupled with a very deep and talented field of 108 players from 27 schools in South Carolina, led to record scoring in the fourth annual Bengal Invitational Golf Tournament at Columbia Country Club in Blythewood April 19 and 20.

For the second consecutive year a Blythewood golfer captured the individual medalist honors as senior Bryce Howell shot a tournament record 134 (-10).

Following the Bengal Invitational, both the varsity and junior varsity teams headed to Easley for the Green Wave Invitational. Howell was the overall medalist with a total 143, and for the junior varsity division, Alex Tilley earned the medalist position with a 160.

The Bengals went on the next day to win the Region IV-4A Tournament. Howell placed third overall. They will move to Upper State next Monday in Greenville after participating at the infamous Southern Cross tournament this weekend in Aiken.
