Blythewood Pays Tribute to Lady Bengals’ Senior Soccer Class

In 2011, during their freshman year, the Lady Bengal soccer seniors captured Blythewood’s first Region IV-4A title and made their way into the 4A State rankings. And they are still making it happen – currently ranked in the top 10 in the State 4A rankings. They will graduate as the winningest senior class in BHS history. And that’s just their team record. They also finished the 2012 season with a 4.10 grade point average and ranked, academically, in the top 20 schools in the nation. They have earned the Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association every year of their high school career. Honored recently on senior night were: Ally Richards, Amber White, Hannah Brandon, Rachel McGahee, Jordyn Melton, Salina Maynard, Abby Mayes, Kylie King, Katie Kuhn and Lauren Killian.

Ally Richards, daughter of Shaye and Christopher Richards, was captain of the junior varsity team in 2012 and will attend the University of South Carolina at Beaufort where she will play soccer and Nursing. Amber White, daughter of Deborah and Lorenzo White, was MVP of the end of season tournament at Irmo last year. She will attend Johnson and Wales College in the fall where she will major in Hospitality & Tourism. Hannah Brandon, daughter of Pam and Gary Brandon, received several academic and spirit awards, including the Scholar Athlete Award and Bengal Pride Award. She will attend Winthrop University and major in Special Education. Rachel McGahee, daughter of Leigh and Adrian McGahee, is a third-year varsity player. She is secretary of BHS’s Honor Society and was chairperson of BHS’s Holiday Wishes project. She will attend the University of South Carolina and major in Political Science. Jordyn Melton, daughter of Laurie and Phil Melton, is a third-year varsity player. She won the Lady Bengals Captains Award last year and represented BHS in the North-South All Star game. She will attend Converse College where she will play collegiate soccer and major in Pre-Med. Salina Maynard, daughter of Socorro and Jim Maynard, is a third-year varsity player. She represented BHS in the North-South All Star game and will play collegiate soccer at Coker College where she will pursue a degree in Pharmacy. Abby Mayes, daughter of Kay and Jim Mayes, is a third-year varsity player. Abby will attend Clemson University where she will major in Graphic Communications. Kiley King, daughter of Patti and Steve King, is a four-year varsity player. She was named to the All Region and All Area teams last year. Kiley will attend the University of South Carolina and major in Nursing. Katie Kuhn, daughter of Tanney and Mark Kuhn, is a four-year varsity player. Last year, she was named the Lady Bengal Offensive Player of the Year. Katie will attend the University of South Carolina and major in Hospitality & Tourism. Lauren Killian, daughter of Melissa Marini and Keith Killian, and step-daughter of Kathy Killian, is a four-year varsity player and team captain this year. As a freshman, she received the Senior Select award. She was named to the All Region, All State and All Area teams in her sophomore and junior seasons and was the All Region Co-Defensive Player of the Year last season. She will represent BHS in this year’s S.C.-N.C. Clash of the Champions. She will attend College of Charleston where she will play collegiate soccer and study Health Science.
