Wiseman wins triathlon age bracket

Blythewood’s Bill Wiseman cranks out the miles in Charleston’s triathlon.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Blythewood’s Bill Wiseman finished first in his age group (50-54) in the Charleston Spring Series Triathlon held June 15-16 in Charleston. To accomplish this feat, Wiseman swam 600 yards, biked 12 miles and completed a 5K run—all in a time of 1:02:42. His Cycling Time Trial—with a time of 58:57—placed him third in the state for his age group.

Since he began to compete 10 years ago, Wiseman has competed in a myriad of triathlon and Ironman Competitions around the country, including placing 15th in the World Ironman Competition in Clearwater, Fla. in 2010.

Wiseman said he typically races one or two and a half Ironman races or a full Ironman race every year along with several shorter races. He spends about 15-20 hours a week training to include swimming three days a week, biking four days a week and running five days a week.

In September, he will compete in the Augusta Ironman 70.3, then it’s on to Florida where he will compete in a full Ironman competition in November.
