COLUMBIA – The Westwood High School Lady Redhawks basketball squad came up one digit shy at Richland Northeast Dec. 3, falling to the Lady Cavaliers 34-33. After falling behind 14-7 in the opening quarter, the Lady ‘Hawks battled back to take a 20-17 lead into the locker room. Westwood stretched their lead to 29-21 at the end of the third, but were out-scored 13-4 in the final frame.
Kayla Atkins led the Lady ‘Hawks, posting a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds.
The boys’, meanwhile, thumped RNE 78-53 and followed that up with a 65-48 win over Spring Valley on Dec. 5. The Lady Vikings ran roughshod over the Lady Redhawks in the Dec. 5 opener, 63-16.
