SUMTER — The Richard Winn Academy Lady Eagles basketball team, defending Class 2A SCISA state champions, continued their march for a repeat title this week, knocking out Dorchester in round one of the upper state bracket on Feb. 21 and disposing of Palmetto Christian Monday in round two.

Led by senior Carson Justice, the Lady Eagles gutted out a tough win Monday behind Carson’s 22 points. Right on her heels in the win was Jaycie Johnson with 17 points.

The game’s leading scorer, however, was Palmetto Christian’s Corey Caulder who dumped in an impressive 31 points in the losing effort.

The Lady Eagles were slated to take on Beaufort Academy in the semifinals Thursday at 6:30 at the Sumter Civic Center.

A win would launch the Lady Birds back into the championship game, scheduled for Saturday at 2:20 p.m. at the Civic Center.
