One Wood Farm Hosts Equifest Kids Day

BLYTHEWOOD – This Saturday, the University of South Carolina equestrian team will face defending national champion Auburn, at 10 a.m. at One Wood Farm in the team’s final regular season home meet. Saturday’s meet will also serve as the team’s annual Equifest Kids Day, where kids will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of games and activities including making stick horses, decorating horseshoes, coloring, feeding the horses and barn tours. Admission is free to all Gamecock equestrian meets as well as the Equifest Kids Day.

Junior Katherine Schmidt leads the team in wins for the third season in a row, and senior Johnna Letchworth won her 22nd career MVP last week against Texas A&M, the most by any college rider.

No. 1 South Carolina stayed alive in the race for the No. 1 seed at next month’s SEC championship, as the Gamecocks routed Texas A&M 11-6 last Saturday. The Gamecocks improved to 9-2 overall, 3-2 in SEC play, while the Aggies dropped to 2-7, and finish SEC play with a 1-5 record.

With a win this Saturday, the Gamecocks can clinch the No. 1 seed for the SEC championship.

On March 28-29 the Gamecocks will return to their farm in Blythewood for the last competition of the season to host the 2014 SEC championships.
