COLUMBIA – Fairfield Central’s Jada Martin was crowned the WLTX News 19 female Player of the Year at a banquet last week in Columbia. Martin, the reigning Class 2A Player of the Year, helped the Lady Griffins to their first region basketball title in school history. The honor came with a $1,000 scholarship.
“This is a great accomplishment for her,” Cedric Simpson, Martin’s head coach, said. “Her leadership and ability set the foundation from day one. She never missed a practice. She was never late for practice. She has worked extremely hard to be great both at basketball and in the classroom.”
Martin averaged 13.6 points per game during the 2013-2014 season, dumping in 285 total points with a field goal percentage of 46. She was 54 percent from inside the arch and 29 percent from 3-point land. Martin also shot 48 percent from the stripe this season.
Martin’s grade point average is approaching 4.5, currently ranking her at second in her senior class. Martin will continue her education and basketball career at Spartanburg Methodist College where she plans to major in computer science.
