WINNSBORO – The spirit of Nell Collins Connor, 90, of Winnsboro, departed Saturday morning, May 17, 2014.

Born Sept. 15, 1923, in Bath, S.C., daughter of the late Walton and Elizabeth Collins, she retired after 40 years working in the Winnsboro Mills.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Fernell Connor, retired Fairfield County Clerk of Court, in 1985, and served faithfully from thence as the family’s matriarch, pouring her soul into the well-being of her grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, Steve Connor (wife Claire) and Duane Connor (wife Starr) of Blythewood; grandchildren Eric (wife Karen) Connor, and Hannah, Duane Jr., Virginia (husband Juan De Jesus), Leigh, Rebecca and Elijah Connor; great-grandchildren Asa and Aden Connor; and nephews, James McCormac Jr. and Billy Pearson; and nieces Selwyn Turner, Beth Abercrombie and Donna Burkette.

She was preceded in death by sisters Mary McCormac, Lois Russell, Eunice Pearson and Bernice Mixon.

The family received visitors 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Pope Funeral Home, Winnsboro. Funeral services are 3 p.m. Monday, May 19, at Stephen Greene Baptist Church, 500 Seventh St., Winnsboro, 29180, where donations can be made in her memory.
