Westwood junior TJ White of Blythewood (left) congratulates teammates after a win in the Gold Medal Games earlier this month. White was selected to play for the USSSA/USA 15u National Team that competed at the Houston Astros spring training facilities in Kissimmee, Fla., Aug. 4-7. The USA National Team played against teams from Italy, Germany, Great Britain, Canada and Puerto Rico. After tying their first game with Canada, the US Team rolled off five straight wins to make it to the championship game against Puerto Rico. White, who plays for the Redhawk varsity baseball squad, was the leading hitter for the US Team, going 8 for 17, with a .471 average. Defensively, he played shortstop, second and third base for the US Team.
“It was a great experience playing with such a talented group of guys from across the U.S., against top international competition,” White said.
