WINNSBORO – The Lady Eagles continued their dominance against their foes this season as they dismantled Newberry Academy with a 56-16 SCISA Class A Region II victory.

The Lady Eagles began the game on a 13-0 run led by Jaycie Johnson scoring 8 of the Lady Eagles’ 13 points. Newberry Academy struggled with the defensive pressure applied by the Lady Eagles in the beginning stages of the game. Going into the second quarter the RWA Lady Eagles’ full-court pressure continued to keep Newberry Academy off the boards. Johnson and Jessie Stidham continued to lead the RWA scoring run combining for 13 points on the Lady Eagles’ 19-3 run as RWA led 32-3 at the half.

Newberry Academy came into the third quarter still struggling on the offensive end as the RWA Lady Eagles continued to hound Newberry Academy with their intense defensive pressure. Even though the Lady Eagles defense was the stable point of the game, both teams played sluggishly with numerous turnovers and missed opportunities. Despite the sluggish third and fourth quarters, the Lady Eagles pulled away with a 56-16 victory.

Johnson led all scorers with 20 points as Stidham contributed with 15 points. Emily Senn led Newberry Academy with 7 points.

The Lady Eagles took to the road Tuesday, trouncing W.W. King Academy 57-31. Johnson again led the way with 28 points while Stidham added 16. RWA travels to Laurens Jan. 23.
