Lady Eagles Take Tourney

WINNSBORO – Richard Winn Academy forward Jaycie Johnson recorded her 1,000th career point as the Lady Eagles captured the Booster Club Christmas Tournament Championship with a 52-30 victory over Wilson Hall on Dec. 30.

In the first half Richard Winn started sluggishly against Wilson Hall despite having a double digit lead. Johnson led the Eagle charge with their post play as the height advantage doomed the Lady Barons early. Despite the Lady Eagles committing several turnovers in the first half they were able to keep their double digit lead going into half-time, up 25-15.

Wilson Hall and Richard Winn both began the third quarter cold as neither team produced any points. The Lady Eagles scored the first points of the half at the 4:00 mark after struggling to increase their lead majority of the quarter. Any chance of a Wilson Hall comeback was scuttled after the Lady Barons were hit with a technical foul with 3:00 left in the third. Johnson nailed the technical free throws as the Lady Eagles ended the quarter with a 14-7 run. Johnson and Jessie Stidham continued the Lady Eagles’ run into the fourth quarter as Richard Winn blew open the game, going up by as much as 20 points to end the game.

Johnson led all scorers with 21 points. Stidham added 10 points for the Lady Eagles. Richard Winn improved to 12-0. The Lady Eagles next game is Jan. 9 at Anderson.
