Harry Gene Sandifer

BLYTHEWOOD – Memorial services for Harry Gene Sandifer, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Pope Funeral Home in Winnsboro. The family will greet those in attendance after the service.

Born Jan. 3, 1929 in Winnsboro, S.C., Harry was the son of the late Bertha Thompson Sandifer & Luther Sandifer.

He is Survived by his wife, Rebecca Sandifer; three children, Harry Sandifer Jr. (and wife Valerie) of Winnsboro, Thomas “Rusty” Sandifer (and wife Stacy) of Tamarac, Fla. and Helen Sandifer (and Husband Marty) of Kennesaw, Ga.; two Step-children, Michael Flemming (and wife Barbara) of Arlington, Va. and Terry Clements (and Husband James) of Long Grove, Ill.; two grand-children, John Sandifer of Winnsboro and Jenna Sandifer of Tamarac, Fla.; five Step-children, Jordan Crawford, Kathleen Flemming, Rebecca Fleming, Irena Clements and Phillip Clements, and many nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his parents; one son, Scott Key Sandifer; six sisters: Louise Sinclair, Cuba Timmons, Reba Strang, Bobbie Broadwell, Iris Daubener and Jane Brooks, and one brother, Brooks Sandifer.

A graduate of Mt. Zion Institute in Winnsboro and of the University of South Carolina, Harry became an educator in Monroe County, Fla., first as a teacher, then as an administrator, retiring after 34 years. He served the United States Army in the early fifties. A life-long Baptist, he was a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church and of the Men’s II Sunday School Class. Both as a youth and adult, he enjoyed singing in his church’s choir, and as a member of a Barber Shop Quartet.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sandy Level Baptist Church or the Parkinson’s Foundation, or Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Cure.
