Stars Shine at State Meet

COLUMBIA – Athletes from Blythewood, Fairfield Central and Westwood high schools poured out the final drops of sweat in track and field’s spring 2015 campaign, vying for medals at the state meet last weekend at Spring Valley High School. Although none of our local athletes took home gold this year, a pair of bronze medals were earned, while a host of events yielded top-10 finishes. The results:

Boys

2A – 100M – Joseph Young, FCHS, 4th (10.91).

4A – 400M Hurdles – Kaden Briggs, WHS, 7th (58.14).

4×100 – Derambez Drinkard, Desmond Wilson, Kenny Benton, D’Andre Fletcher, Jordan Smith, BHS, 6th (42.76).

4×400 – Joshua Wilson, Jalen Brown, Derambez Drinkard, Desmond Wilson, Jonathan Morgan, Tyler Mitchell, BHS, 6th (3:23.75).

4×800 – Devin Lowry, Jalen Brown, Caleb Wilson, James Palmer, Joshua Bowers, Tyler Mitchell, BHS, 3rd (8:01.14);

Deshaun Felder, Shane Harkness, Marvin James, Tre’von King, Ereck Lewis, Dangelo Shannon, WHS, 8th (8:22.34).

High Jump – Richie Finch, WHS, 5th (6-02).

Girls

4A – 100M – Sharnae Alston, BHS, 5th (12.30).

4×100 – Brooklyn Armstrong, Kelsey Briggs, Jasmine Brown, Jordan Harding, Diamond Rush, Adrianna White, WHS, 5th (48.38).

4×400 – Sharne Alston, Maiya Brown, Shaniya Marshall, Ashley Mitchell, Keionna Ray, Aleah Wilson, BHS, 5th (3:56.88).

Long Jump – Kelsey Briggs, WHS, 3rd (18-07).
