WINNSBORO (Feb. 10, 2016) – Despite a sloppy opening to the game, Fairfield Central (12-8, 9-2) found a way to cruise past the Mid-Carolina Rebels with a 23-point win Tuesday night, 69-46.

“Glad we were able to get into a rhythm, even though we began a little sluggish in the opening quarter,” Griffins head coach Devin Liferidge said. “We were able to capitalize with the turnovers we forced with our press to eventually get us in our groove on the offensive end.”

In the first quarter both teams started slow, but the Griffins were fueled by Marcus Gibbs, Brandon Adams and Chandon Davis as the each scored 5 points to give the Griffins a 17-14 first-quarter edge. The second quarter began as the first ended, as Fairfield Central went into the quarter continuing their run to 13-0 as the Rebels began to miss shots.

“Our run in the end of first quarter going into the second quarter really helped us on the offensive end,” Liferidge said. “I believe once we get that press rolling we are one of the fastest teams and will produce a lot of points.”

Getting a combined 15 points from Adams, Davis and JR Edmonds, the Griffins were able to go into the half up 34-27. Once halftime ended the Griffins went on a 14-4 run to open the third quarter. With Mid-Carolina struggling to score, the Griffins ended the Rebels by outscoring them 30-19 the third and fourth quarters as Gibbs and Cameron Roseberry combined for 17 points.

“I was happy our seniors were able to win their final home game as we continue try to keep second place in the region,” Liferidge said.
