Arrest Looms in Cash Grab

WINNSBORO (March 25, 2016) – An arrest warrant is pending, Public Safety Chief Freddie Lorick said this week, for a West Columbia man accused of embezzling more than $4,000 from a local credit union.

According to a March 1 incident report, Brian William Stowers, 43, of Oakwood Drive, West Columbia, was terminated from his position at AllSouth Federal Credit Union, 553 Highway 321 Bypass, on Feb. 8, after an audit of his cashbox came up $4,700 short.

Stowers was reportedly assigned the cashbox on Dec. 30, at which time the cashbox contained $4,756.04. Stowers was suspended from duty on Feb. 4, and a dual audit of his cashbox on Feb. 19 found that the box contained only $56.04. A second audit by two employees and a regional manager confirmed that Stowers’ cashbox was missing $4,700 in cash.

Lorick said a warrant for Stowers’ arrest was being processed at press time and that an arrest was pending on charges of embezzlement.
