Lady Bengals Take Tourney, Lexington

SIMPSONVILLE (Sept. 21, 2016) – The Lady Bengals raced through the Hillcrest Invitational volleyball tournament last weekend, taking all six of their matches on their way to the tournament crown. Blythewood dropped only one game throughout the entire weekend, a 25-20 bump in the road to Gaffney in the tourney finale.

The Lady Bengals opened the first round Friday afternoon with a 26-24, 25-19 win over Clover, then followed that up later in the evening by knocking out Wade Hampton 25-11, 25-21.

Saturday morning, the Lady Bengals continued their run, bumping off Riverside 25-17, 25-21. That afternoon, it was the host school’s turn to fall at the hands of Blythewood as the Lady Bengals dispatched Hillcrest 25-19, 25-20.

Later, Blythewood made short work of Spartanburg Christian Academy, 25-13, 25-22 in the semifinals.

In the final round, the Lady Indians of Gaffney handed Blythewood their first and only loss of the tournament, taking the first game of the finals 25-20. The Lady Bengals bounced back, taking game two 25-22, forcing a third game.

Blythewood polished off the Lady Indians 15-13 in the deciding game to take home the hardware.

Blythewood returned to region play Tuesday night with a 3-1 win over Lexington at home, 23-25, 25-14, 25-19, 31-29. Blythewood is at White Knoll Sept. 22 and will take their game to the Lexington tournament Saturday before hosting Spring Valley Sept. 27.
