Confederates Bring Down Eagles

EHRHARDT (Oct. 1, 2016) – Bailey Ackerman rushed for 199 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns and Savalas Cann added 175 rushing yards on 12 carries and three scores as Andrew Jackson powered past Richard Winn Academy 60-22 Friday night. With the win, the Confederates (6-0) run their win streak to 20 consecutive games.

Richard Winn marched down the field 60 yards on their opening possession ending with Mitchell Gibbons taking it in from 7 yards out for an early 6-0 lead.

AJA wasted little time responding as Cann took the Confederates’ third play from scrimmage 81 yards for a touchdown. Ackerman’s conversion run gave AJA the 8-6 lead.

The Eagles rallied on their next possession with a Gibbons to Noah Edwards 24-yard pass. Gibbons’ PAT kick gave Richard Winn their final lead of the night, 13-8.

AJA responded again. This time it was Ackerman from 40 yards out. Cann’s conversion run gave AJA the lead back at 16-13 after one quarter.

In the second quarter AJA got a 7-yard touchdown run from Ackerman and an 11-yard touchdown run from Brett McCormick.

Gibbons’ 29-yard field goal just before halftime made the score 32-16 at the break.

Andrew Jackson dominated the third quarter, getting touchdown runs of 3 and 5 yards by Cann and a 2 yard run by Colyn Peek to push the lead to 54-16 going into the final quarter.

Andrew Jackson would get a 43-yard touchdown run by Peek while Richard Winn scored on a 70-yard pass from Zack Taylor to Gibbons in the final quarter.

For Andrew Jackson, Peek added 66 yards on 6 carries and two touchdowns and McCormick 58 yards on seven carries and a touchdown.

Richard Winn was led by Gibbons with 16 carries for 64 yards and a touchdown. He was 8-for-17 passing for 101 yards and a touchdown, caught a pass for a 70 yard touchdown and also kicked a 29-yard field goal. Taylor was 3-for-7 passing for 73 yards and a touchdown. Edwards caught a pair of passes for 53 yards and a score, while Jonny Edenfield hauled in five passes for 32 yards.

The Andrew Jackson defense was led by Ackerman with 13 tackles and a fumble recovery. Trey Pulaski added eight tackles, Cope Gleaton seven tackles, and McCormick and Ryan Sullivan six tackles each. Connor Gleaton added an interception for AJA.

The Eagles host Curtis Baptist next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
