BLYTHEWOOD (Feb. 8, 2017) – Westwood (10-6, 6-3) played a sloppy game against the Stallions of South Pointe (11-10, 4-5) Tuesday night, but the Redhawks were still able to hold off South Pointe 46-39.

“I felt we did not play best to our ability tonight,” Westwood Coach Jeff DiBattisto said. “Despite our struggles on both ends of the court tonight we still managed to find a way to win this game.”

Westwood and South Pointe both started the game missing shots and committing many turnovers to combine for a total of only 14 points as Westwood edged out front 9-5 at the end of the first.

The second quarter did not go any better for either team as they went into halftime tied at 18 apiece.

“Both teams had a tough time in the first half getting points and not having turnovers,” DiBattisto said. “I told our guys at the half if we didn’t clean it up we were going to lose this game.”

Both teams continued their sloppy play in the third, struggling to convert on easy baskets. Despite the struggles, Westwood outscored South Pointe 10-7 taking a 28-25 lead going into the final frame.

“The fourth quarter was refreshing for us as we finally played our game and converted the easy baskets,” DiBattisto said.

Westwood closed out the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run defeating South Pointe 46-39.

“Despite a bad three quarters, I was happy our guys continued to preserver through the hardships to get this victory,” DiBattisto said.

Westwood was led by Xavier Dobey with 10 points.
