Blythewood Ozones headed for Dixie Youth State Championship

Players from the Blythewood Ozone team clamor to get their hands on the gold. This year marks the fourth straight year that a Blythewood team has hoisted a Dixie Youth Trophy.

BLYTHEWOOD – When Blythewood has hosted Dixie Youth Tournaments over the last few years, the town’s teams have had a great deal of success. This year was no different as the Blythewood Ozone team took the top prize, and the Minors managed a second place finish.

Blythewood led off the Minors tournament with a 16-3 smack down of Dentsville. They followed that performance with a 20-2 victory, but narrowly escaped the next round with a 8-4 over Pineview.

The Minors improved their record to 4-0 with a 13-3 win over Gaston, and that win set-up another match-up with Pineview. Had Blythewood pulled off the victory they would have clinched the tournament, but Pineview won 9-6. That set-up a rematch with Pineview and Blythewood for all the marbles, but Pineview came out on top again, 13-3.

Blythewood’s Ozones took down Lexington National 4-0 on the first day of the Ozone Tournament. The win over Lexington set up a match between Blythewood and Dentsville, and the home team easily notched another win on their belts with a 17-4 victory.

Blythewood dispatched Pineview 6-0 to move on to the championship game where they beat Midlands in a nail-biting 12-11 contest to clinch the District 4 Championship.

The Ozone team will participate in the State Tournament in Hartsville beginning July 15, and their first game will be at 11 a.m.
