Rotarians & Friends Run the Distance

WINNSBORO – The annual Rotary 5K Run/Walk was all it was intended to be – well attended, lots of fun and raised money for worthy causes: the Global Pencil Projects and Winnsboro Service projects. With 55 registered runners/walkers, the event featured a Kids Fun Run with many participants who tore off down Congress Street to the cheers of friends and family.

Mike Good, Mitford fire Chief, joined the walkers, carrying the American flag and 120 pounds of gear as he honored all emergency personnel. Good walks in full uniform in a number of 5k’s around the country.

Organizer Lori Schaeffer included not only the run/walk in the afternoon festivities, but a Zumba warm-up, participation shirts all around and trophies for the winners in several categories.

“It was our fifth year for the 5K,” Schaeffer said, “and it was very successful! It was good for Rotary’s charity, good for the community and REALLY good for everyone who ran and walked.”

The winners of the individual age categories proudly wear their medals.
