BLYTHEWOOD – Blythewood is not the only team dominating right now on the volleyball courts. Westwood picked up their seventh and eighth consecutive region victories with wins last week over the South Pointe Stallions and Lancaster Bruins.

The Redhawks remain undefeated in region play and have a 2.5 game lead over York with just three games remaining. They picked up their fourteenth win of the season on Tuesday with 3-1 win over South Pointe in their Dig Pink Night.

Westwood took the first set, 25-13, and the second, 25-21, but South Pointe seized the third set, 25-20. However, the Stallions’ hopes were dashed in fourth set when the Redhawks picked up a 25-11 win.

Junior Jasmine Finkley led the team in kills with 13, blocks with seven and was second in aces with three. Ta’Naya Corley tallied a whopping 29 of the Redhawks’ 31 assists.

Nyah Leveretter (8) used her wingspan to rise above the Stallion blockers.

Then, on Thursday they took to the road to face Lancaster and returned with a clean 3-0 win. Westwood breezed through the first set 25-12. Lancaster fared a bit better in the second set, but fell 25-21.

Again, the Redhawks crushed the Bruins, 25-14, in the third set. Nyah Leveretter had the hot hand against Lancaster with 15 kills and eight blocks, both team highs. Ta’Naya Corley came up big again in the assist department with 28.
