Eagles fall to Greenwood

GREENWOOD – After an exciting buzzer beater win Tuesday against Thomas Sumter, the Richard Winn Boys basketball team took to enemy soil to face the Greenwood Christian Academy Hawks. Greenwood Christian jumped out to a 20-7 lead after the first quarter, and from there, they cruised to a 51-37 win.

Greenwood’s Asal Naters went off for 18 points to lead all-scores, and he single handedly outscored the Eagles, 10-7 in the first quarter. Zack Taylor led the Eagles’ scoring effort with 11 points.

Despite the big first quarter lead, the Eagles charged back to trim the lead down to 26-21 before halftime. The Hawks only nailed one field goal in the second period. Both, Marshall Gibbons and Zack Taylor scored five in the quarter, and Lane Brickett nailed one from behind the arc.

Richard Winn’s comeback bid took a hit with a rough third quarter. They only managed five points one field goal, and after the third they were again facing a double digit deficit led, 38-26. Eli White had five third quarter points for the Hawks.

Five Greenwood players scored in the fourth quarter, and they easily secured the 14-point win. Richard Winn does return to home-game action until their Christmas Tournament on Dec.19 and Dec.20.
