Lady Griffin defense smothers Keenan

COLUMBIA – The Fairfield Central Lady Griffins began their week with a close 53-46 loss against a 6-1 Newberry Bulldog team, but Friday they got back into the win column against the Keenan Raiders. With the 51-46 win over Keenan, the Lady Griffins have now won two of their last three.

Keenan got off to a fast start thanks to the hot hand of Jadiamond Hickman and Logan McDaniel. McDaniel had 10 of her 22 in the first quarter, and Hickman had seven of her 15. After one, Keenan was up 17-14.

Then, the Griffins’ stingy defense smothered the Keenan spark. The Raiders followed their explosive first quarter with a four-point second quarter. Fairfield’s Lakeyn Boyd had six points in the quarter, and Tameshia Woodard tallied five.

Fairfield’s defense was not much kinder to the Raiders in the third quarter, and Keenan only did marginally better with their seven third quarter points. However, the Griffins had no problems scoring on the Keenan defense.

Four Griffins earned notches in the scorecard during the third quarter, and Cristin Gray had a period high six points. Gray ended with 12 points, and Boyd led the Griffins in scoring with 13 points.

Hickman and McDaniel sparked a bit of a rally for Keenan in the fourth quarter, each putting up six, but time expired before the Raiders could complete their rally.
