Eagles win with buzzer beater

WINNSBORO – Richard Winn hosted the Newberry Academy Eagles on Tuesday for a bit of round ball, and the teams put on quite the show for all onlooking Eagle fans. Lead changes were abundant in this nail biter of a game, but Hudson Wade’s buzzer beating three pointer gave RWA the last laugh and a 43-40 victory.

Anthony McClean and Payton Gardner both had three first-quarter points for Newberry and helped power them out to an early 8-7 lead. Richard Winn took the lead back before halftime, partially due to a strong five-point quarter from Noah Edwards.

McClean and Garner each nailed a three-pointer in the third quarter, and Bennett Connelly had six to move Newberry back into the lead before the beginning of the fourth quarter. The long ball helped save the Eagles in the final period.

Lane Bickett and Jimmy McKeown both struck from behind the arc early in the quarter, and Hudson Wade had the most important bucket of the game with his buzzer beating three that put Newberry away.

The Eagles close out their season Friday at King Academy.
