COLUMBIA – Last week, the Richard Winn Lady Eagles had to erase a 5-0 Ben Lippen deficit to sneak away with a 7-5 victory on their senior night, but on Monday the two teams met for a rematch at Ben Lippen. The Falcons jumped out to early lead again Monday night, but this time they cruised to the 13-3 win.

Michaela Caughman gave Ben Lippen a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a single out to right field that scored Miranda Heydt and Reagan Cox. An error in centerfield later in the inning cost the Eagles another run, but Richard Winn had a quick response.

Sally Costenbader struck with a two-out RBI single in the top of the second inning. Hannah Smith followed Costenbader and tied the game on a hard hit two-RBI double to center field.

The bottom of the second inning took a terrible turn for RWA. Reagan Hooks’s RBI-single marked the first run of a monstrous seven-run inning for the Falcons. An error and walk led to two more easy runs for Ben Lippen, and then Alyssa Craft punched home another run on a single to center.

Another error and a two-RBI Sara Foy double left the Falcons with comfortable 10-3 cushion after two innings. The pitching duo of Cox and Hooks dominated the Eagles line after the bumpy second inning.

Richard Winn only racked up two hits after their three-run, second inning performance, but the Ben Lippen bats were not done. Hooks gave herself some more run support with an inside the park home-run to lead off the bottom of the third.

Hooks singled in another RBI, her third of the night, in the fourth inning and Sarah Trawick also picked up an RBI with a double.

The Eagles have a chance to bounce back from the big loss in the double-elimination SCISA state softball tournament on Friday and Saturday in Sumter.
