Redhawks put Demons to bed

BLYTHEWOOD – The 2018 season opener for the Redhawks could not have gone off much better for Dustin Curtis’s squad. Jalen Briggman’s 35-yard rushing score opened up the floodgates for the Redhawk offense, and when the dust settled they had a 53-14 win.

Junior quarterback Ahmon Green added his output to the scoring barrage in the second quarter. He put the Redhawks up 14-0 with a 27-yard shot to Cortes Braham and then hit Christian Horn from three yards out. That was the first of Horn’s three total touchdowns.

The defense and offense were not the only units clicking in the beat-down. TJ Blanding got the special teams involved in the first-half thrashing with a 53-yard punt return touchdown. Westwood’s lead stood at 28 at halftime.

Christian Horn wasted no time in keeping the momentum train on its track. Horn burned through the susceptible Demon’s special teams squad and marched into the end-zone for a 77-yard score.

Then Ahmon Green came through with another pair of touchdown tosses. His 15-yard touchdown pass to Rashad McCain gave Westwood a 40-0 edge. Later in the third quarter, Green found Horn again, this time it was a 24-yard score. Deshawn Boyd completed a 53-0 Westwood run with a 13-yard carry.

The Demons put up a couple of short rushing touchdown late in the garbage time of the fourth quarter.

After the game, defensive back Cam Smith added another highlight to the night when he announced he would be taking his talents to the University of South Carolina. Smith had trimmed his list down to Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina prior to the season.
