WINNSBORO – The Eagles were on a three-game skid and had not tasted win since their season opener when they kicked off Friday night against Clarendon Hall. Richard Winn held a 17-14 lead heading into the final quarter, but the Saints went on a 30-0 run in the fourth and left Winnsboro with a 44-17 victory. Tyrese Mitchum had 302 rushing yards and four touchdowns for the Saints.

Strong defensive play highlighted most of the first quarter, but with under four minutes to go, the Eagles found the scoreboard. Zack Taylor’s two-yard quarterback keeper capped off the seven-play, 66-yard scoring drive.

Mitchum got the Saints on the board on the following drive. He took the handoff on the first play of the drive and burned the Richard Winn defense to the tune of a 59-yard run. The Eagles looked to answer back and mounted a long to drive to open the second quarter. They worked deep into Saints’ territory but an offensive pass interference call and a subsequent interception derailed the drive.

Mitchum rang the up the Richard defense again with a 64-yard touchdown in the second quarter, which gave Clarendon Hall a 14-7 lead with five minutes left in the half. Richard Winn opened their next drive by powering the ball down the field until room opened up for Taylor to find Jimmy McKeown for a 30-yard touchdown pass. The score at halftime was locked up at 14 apiece.

Like the first quarter, the third was mostly highlighted by solid defensive play. Richard Winn recovered a Clarendon Hall fumbled midway through the third. A Saints’ face-mask and unsportsmanlike conduct penalty put Brandon Miller in range to hit a 30-yard field goal.

Miller’s field goal gave the Eagles the slight advantage headed into the fourth, but Mitchum struck for two more touchdowns in the final 12 minutes. Josh Black scored the Saints’ go ahead touchdown on a two-yard run after Richard Winn turned the ball over on downs.

Richard Winn’s next drive was marred by another turnover on downs, and Mitchum converted the opportunity into a 30-yard touchdown dash. The Eagles’ suffered their third consecutive turnover on downs during their following possession, and yet again the Saints turned it into points.

Black put the Saints ahead 36-17 with a 20-yard pass to Kylic Horton. The Eagles fumbled the ensuing kickoff, and Clarendon Hall recovered at their own 37-yard line. One play later, Mitchum ripped a 63-yard touchdown.

Clarendon Hall remains undefeated with the win. The loss drops Richard Winn to 1-4. The Eagles host Tri-Academy Friday.
