BLYTHEWOOD – The Westwood Redhawks clinched their at-large berth into the 4A South Carolina High School League playoffs with 29-0 statement win over the South Aiken Thoroughbreds. The win improved the Redhawks final record to 6-4 and sets them up with a first round playoff match on the road against Belton-Honea Path on Nov. 9.
Cameron Maynard put the Redhawks on the board in the first quarter with a two-yard rushing score. Earlier in the week, Maynard and Safety TJ Blanding were named to the inaugural Columbia Metro Senior Bowl Roster. The game will be held on Dec. 22 at Irmo High School.
Later in the second quarter, David Strother put the Redhawks up 10-0 with his 28-yard field goal. Ahmon Green rang up Cortes Braham for a 66-yard touchdown before the halftime break. Green went 17 for 25 on the night with 213 yards, one touchdown pass and an interception. He also had 51 yards rushing on seven carries.
South Aiken only scrounged up a meager 110 yards of total offense and averaged below three yards a play. Westwood had 292 yards just on the ground and finished the night with 505 yards of total offense.
Cam Atkins added to the Redhawks lead in the fourth quarter after he found the end-zone on a three-yard rush. Jalen Briggman broke free from the defense for a 90-yard touchdown, and the final score of the game.
