Eagles finish tourneys 3-1

WINNSBORO – Richard Winn rang in their Christmas tournament in an impressive fashion. They dominated PAC in day-one of the tournament, and in their second contest they were pitted against Palmetto Christian Academy. PCA had no answer for Darius Boyd, and the Eagles marched to a 62-31 win to end their tournament undefeated.

Boyd went off against PCA and led all scorers. He had 21 points and exploded in the third quarter. He sank four shots from deep-range in the third and drained a total of five threes on the night.

The Eagles did not get a long layoff before taking part in the Newberry Christmas Tournament on Friday and Saturday. They did battle with fellow SCISA foe Northside Christian Academy on day one of the two day affair.

Richard Winn led Northside most of the way, but the Crusaders kept things close. Hudson Wade and Darius Boyd combined were too much for Northside, and the Eagles secured a 54-48 win.

Hudson Wade made the Crusaders defense look non-existent. He had 26 points, and 15 of those came in the second half. Boyd had 16 and knocked down three more shots from deep range. Dru Caldwell had eight points, and Jalen Reuss led Crusaders in scoring with 19.

Richard Winn landed a difficult in match-up with the Newberry High Bulldogs on Saturday. The Eagles carved out an 18-15 lead after a quarter of play, but the Bulldogs overwhelmed them late and ran away with an 81-33 victory.

The Bulldogs had 13 separate players score at least one bucket. Nick Paul and Josh Harp were tied with a team high 11 points each. Kentrell Caldwell had 10 points. Darius Boyd led the game in scoring with 16 points. He added two more three-pointers to his season total.
