Bengal Wrestling wraps up season

LAURENS – A young Blythewood Bengals wrestling squad qualified 13 competitors for the 5A Upper State Finals this weekend, and despite not qualifying anyone for the State Finals, four Bengals picked up two victories.

Satchel Holloway picked up a win in the 170-pound opener against Will Brooks from Easley. He went down in his second round contest against Hunter Connelly from Byrnes, but knocked off Gaffney’s John Queen in his second bout. Clover’s Matt Courtright eliminated Holloway.

Morgan Marshall picked up a default victory in his first 145-pound bout, but lost in his second matchup. He rebounded with back-to-back wins over Dorman’s Garrison Bishop and Byrnes’ Bryson Mauldin. Marshall was knocked off by JL Mann’s Saadiq Murray.

Matt Clack competed at 120-pounds and picked up a default win in his first contest, lost in the second round, but rebounded with a victory over Riverside’s Mitchell Downden. He was eliminated by Dylan O’Keefe from Hillcrest.

Jayvon Watson scored back-to-back wins at 195 pounds. He won by default in his first bout, and next he picked off JL Mann’s Eakhari Peterson, but two consecutive losses took him out of contention.
