GREENVILLE – Westwood powered their way through the first three rounds of the 4A South Carolina High School League Playoffs, and needed a win over South Pointe to land a spot in the title game. The Stallions outscored the Redhawks 42-23 in the first half, and Westwood could not recover. South Pointe ended Westwood’s championship aspirations with 57-41 win. Prior to the game the Redhawks had won 15 of their last 16.

Westwood’s offense struggled to find a rhythm early, but only trailed by six at the end of the first. They knotted the game back up in the second quarter, but an 18-2 South Pointe run left the Redhawks in a hole.

South Pointe only scored 15 points in the second half, but Westwood was not able to bridge the first-half deficit. The Redhawks lost 65-61 to the Stallions earlier in the season, but beat them by nearly 20 points earlier in the month.

Unique Drake had 17 points, six rebounds and two steals. Malayziah Etheredge had 12 points and five rebounds. South Pointe’s Scarlett Gilmore also had 17.

South Pointe will take on back-to-back defending champions North Augusta on Mar. 2 for the the State Title.
