BLYTHEWOOD – Blythewood boys soccer’s non-Region 4-5A game with Lexington Tuesday proved to be more meaningful than any region opponent.

Because the Bengals (13-6, 7-1) were in a tie for first place with Spring Valley in the region standings, the tiebreak went down to non-region opponents. Lexington had lost to the Vikings earlier in the season, so now it was up to Blythewood to notch a victory over the Wildcats.

That they did, in good fashion. With the Bengals celebrating Senior night, they edged Lexington 3-2.

“We had to win this game tonight in order to be in competition with Spring Valley,” Blythewood head coach Peter Wittig said. “Spring Valley beat them (Lexington).”

Senior Paddy Orr (7) broke the Bengal record for most career points earlier this season.

The region champion has yet to be decided, because Blythewood beat Spring Valley 2-1 March 26, but lost 2-0 to the Vikings April 11.

Spring Valley travels to Dutch Fork Wednesday. If Dutch Fork wins, the decision of region champ goes down to a coin toss, Wittig said.

“We lost to Dutch Fork,” Wittig explained, noting his team’s 2-1 loss back on Feb. 23. “If it’s still tied, we flip a coin. Right now we’re hoping to flip a coin because we blew it when we lost to Spring Valley just before spring break.”

Jakob Lenker, Paddy Orr, and Vance Strobel scored for Blythewood, with assists coming from Strobel, K.J. Blocker and Michael Kirby.

Lexington got goals from Jaxon Keene and Sam Pent.

The Bengals finish the regular season at Hammond Thursday, and will open the 5A playoffs next week with a home game against an opponent to be determined.
