Griffins fall to Seneca in first round of playoffs

SENECA – The Fairfield Central Griffins fell behind early in Tuesday’s Class AAA playoff game and could not come back in a 10-0 loss to Seneca High School.

Chazi Jones singled to lead off the game. Jones stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball, but was stranded as the next three Griffin batters got out. Jones singled again in the top of the sixth for the only hits of the night for the Griffins. He finished the game with three stolen bases.

Seneca scored on multiple hits in the bottom of the first and took the early 4-0 lead. They added two more in the bottom of the second to go up 6-0.

Taylor Truesdale took the loss, allowing seven hits and six runs in two innings of work. Jacob McManus came on for relief in the third and held Seneca scoreless until CJ Simmons relieved him in the bottom of the sixth with two runners on base.

The Bulldogs capitalized on a handful of hits and Griffin errors in the sixth to plate four more runs and end the game at 10-0.

Seneca starting pitcher Ryan Moore worked for five plus innings, allowing only two hits, walking zero and striking out ten of the 19 batters he faced.

The Griffins will host Woodruff High School in an elimination game tonight. Woodruff lost 5-0 to Chapman on Tuesday.
