Sept. 3 is deadline to file for mayor, 2 at-large council seats

BLYTHEWOOD – With less than a week left to file for two at-large council seats and mayor, only one candidate has set sail.

Councilman Malcolm Gordge has filed for the mayor’s seat. Councilman Eddie Baughman has confirmed with The Voice that he plans to seek re-election, but had not filed at press time. No one has filed for Gordge’s seat.

Residents planning to run for mayor or a seat on town council must register by 5 p.m., Sept. 3. Candidates must file a Statement of Candidacy and pay a non-partisan $10 filing fee for the office of Mayor and a $5 filing fee for council at Blythewood Town Hall, 171 Langford Road, Blythewood.  Town Hall will be closed for Labor Day on Mon day, Sept. 2.

Individuals with questions about the filing process should contact the town clerk at 803-754-0501. The non-partisan election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019. Terms for the mayor and council members are four-year terms, commencing November, 2019 and ending November, 2023.

Candidates for Town of Blythewood offices must be qualified electors in the town.

Register to Vote

The last day to register to vote in person for this election is Saturday, Oct. 5, by 12:00 noon. Voter registration by mail must be postmarked no later than Monday Oct. 7. Voter Registration online, fax or email must be entered no later than Sunday, Oct. 6, at 11:59 pm.

To register to vote or to obtain absentee ballots, contact the Richland County Voter Registration Office, 2020 Hampton Street, Columbia, S.C. Absentee ballots may be requested by calling the Voter Registration Office at 576-2240. In-Person absentee voting will begin Monday, October 7 at 2020 Hampton Street.

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. The polling place for all precincts in this election–Blythewood 1, Blythewood 2, Blythewood 3, Longcreek, and Ridgeway (Fairfield County)—is: Blythewood Park, 126 Boney Road in Blythewood.
