Griffins XC tops runners

COLUMBIA – Fairfield Central Cross Country was back in action in the Shamrock Invitational at Columbia International University last Saturday against Bamberg-Ehrhardt, Batesburg-Leesville, Cardinal Newman, Columbia, Eau Claire, Heathwood Hall, Irmo and Northside Christian. 

The Griffin boys had another big showing with all runners finishing in the top 21. Malik Beaver finished first for the Griffins in third at 18:30.96, just 27 seconds from the top spot. Malik Coleman and Sammie Robinson finished in fifth and sixth places respectively with times of 18:34.50 and 18:42.57. Joshua Mosley came in tenth at 19:01.74, Luke Downs in 13th at 19:23.53, Gabriel Mosley in 18th at 20:13.96 and London Boulware in 21st at 21:28.75.

Ashanti Thompson and Nia Lemon topped the Griffin girls’ pool with 18th and 19th place finishes at 24:56.25 and 24:56.60. Trenell Boyd followed closely with a 24th place finish and a time of 28:23.24. Kensley Green and Alexus Burbage rounded out Fairfield’s female runners in 30th and 33rd places.

The Griffin boys traveled to Camden Tuesday for a 14-team meet and took top honors. Coleman finished first for the Griffins and in third place overall with a time of 18:07.76. Beaver finished in sixth place at 18:24.96 and Robinson placed seventh with a time of 18:34.77. Mosley followed closely in eleventh place at 18:58.22 and Downs placed 25th at just over 20 minutes.

The Griffin run again this Saturday in the Lake Murray Invitational at Crooked Creek Park.
