Caregivers conference set for Oct. 23

BLYTHEWOOD – The Second Annual Dementia and Alzheimer’s Caregiver’s Conference will be held at Doko Manor in Blythewood on Oct. 23 from 9-3.

Keynote speaker for the event will be Dr. Macie Smith, Licensed Social Worker, notable gerontologist and author. She and other speakers will offer critical and life-changing information about the various forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

They will also cover topics such as wills, healthcare and durable powers of attorney, DHEC requirements for nursing homes and other facilities that serve the elderly population. There will also be information about Project Hope, the S. C. Office of Aging, the Alzheimer’s Association, caring for the caregiver and much more.

Caregivers will get answers to questions concerning the daily challenges of caregiving – the physical and emotional issues of caregiving, respite care, time management, financial costs, loss of work time, career opportunities and more.
