David Gaillard Ellison

WINNSBORO – Mr. David Gaillard Ellison, 98, of Winnsboro passed away on Monday, January 27, 2020.  Born in Winnsboro on March 13, 1921, he was the son of the late Rebecca Lyles Ellison and the late Samuel DuBose Ellison. 

Mr. Ellison was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.  He was a long time proprietor of The Triangle Restaurant and Lauderdale’s Grocery.  He enjoyed interacting with his grandchildren and their animals.  He also enjoyed fellowship over a game of cards. He was known for traveling, whether around town and countryside or to his favorite destinations of the mountains or Edisto Beach. He also was a veteran of World War II.

Mr. Ellison is survived by his wife of 73 years, Helen Porter Ellison of the home.  His children, David G. Ellison, Jr. (Dee) of Edisto Island, Robert B. “Bobby” Ellison (Amelia) of White Oak, and William D. “Billy” Ellison (Lucia) of Lexington, SC. Grandchildren, James Ellison of Wa, Ghana, Augusta Ellison of Denver, Colorado, Dr. Candice Ellison (Teddy) of Morgantown, West Virginia, Audrey Ellison of Sacramento, California and Boyd and Creighton Ellison of White Oak, SC. 

He is predeceased by brothers, Samuel DuBose Ellison, Jr. and Thomas Woodward Ellison; sisters, Rebecca Ellison Thurmond and Kate Ellison Montague. 

Graveside services will be held at 1 o’clock PM Saturday, February 1, 2020 at St. John’s Episcopal Cemetery on North Garden Street at the intersection of Fairfield Street. The family will receive friends after the service in the church Parrish Hall.
