Blythewood wrestling qualifies for playoffs

BLYTHEWOOD – After finishing 3-1 in the Region IV Duals, Blythewood Wrestling (17-5) qualified for the SCHSL 5-A State Playoffs as a two-seed.

The Bengals fell to Region Champion Lugoff-Elgin, but took down Sumter 45-32, Irmo 54-27 and Spring Valley 39-38 in the Region Dual meet. In the final match of the day at 106lbs, freshman Chase Maynard took to the mat. According to head coach Paul Watson, Maynard was set to play the role of hero and did not disappoint. Maynard won the match by decision to seal the Bengals as a two-seed.

Blythewood will travel to Hillcrest on Feb. 8 to take on three-seeded Greenwood in the first round of the playoffs. The meet will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Sophomores Matt Clack (126lbs), Eric Montgomery (160lbs) and juniors Morgan Marshall (152lbs) and Tyler Rasberry (HWY) were named to the All-Region team for Region IV 5-A.
