Bengal girls open soccer season

COLUMBIA – Rainy weather put a damper on Blythewood girls’ soccer’s season openers last week, but the Bengals faced Dreher on Wednesday. Scores were not available at press time.

The Bengals have been active in preseason since their Feb. 19 scrimmage loss to Chapin (2-0). Blythewood took a 2-0 preseason win over Airport on Feb. 26. Megan Compas scored the first goal in the first half and Claudia Watson put one in during the second half.

The Bengals participated in Spring Valley’s Viking Cup Pre-Season Tournament Feb. 27 – March 1. In the first half, Emery Christensen scored Blythewood’s only goal. Greenville scored in the second half. Kathrynne Milligan and Watson got PK’s in the shootout, but Greenville put in three.

Blythewood took down White Knoll in their second game of the tournament. Meredith Stone scored the in the first half, but Blythewood trailed 1-3 at the half. Michael Bosmans and Watson tied the game up with goals in the second half, and Milligan scored the winning goal for a 4-3 comeback win.

Day three of the tournament pitted Blythewood against Lexington High School. The Bengals took a 1-0 loss in the game.

Blythewood is scheduled to host their home opener against Nation Ford on Monday at 7 p.m.
