Holland named new BHE principal

COLUMBIA — At a regularly scheduled board meeting Tuesday, August 11, 2020, Superintendent Dr. Baron R. Davis recommended and the Richland Two Board of Trustees approved the selection of Shannon Holland as principal of Bethel-Hanberry Elementary School 

Holland is well-known at Bethel-Hanberry Elementary School. She has spent the past four years serving as assistant principal at the school. She began her educational career 24 years ago as a kindergarten and homebound teacher in York County. She taught fifth-grade students for three years at West Lee Elementary in Sumter County and Pine Tree Hill Elementary in Kershaw County. Holland joined the Richland Two family in 2005 and has been a teacher at Killian, Sandlapper and Langford Elementary schools.

“I am honored to receive the opportunity to continue being part of the Bethel-Hanberry family with this new leadership role,” Holland said. “As part of this premier elementary school, I will lead the students, staff and community in striving for excellence. I look forward to the school’s continuous growth and exciting experiences as the new principal.”

Holland holds a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from D’Youville College in New York, Master of Education degrees from the University of Phoenix in Arizona and Capella University in Minnesota. She also received an educational specialist degree from Capella University. Holland is National Board Certified.

She has two sons. One is a Richland Two graduate and the other is a high school senior in the district.
