Bengal softball falls at Lexington, victorious at Northwestern

LEXINGTON – Three days after Lexington pitcher Riley Ford no-hit Blythewood in a 10-0 loss at Lexington, the Bengals got back into the swing of Region 4-5A with a 17-6, 5-inning romp at Northwestern Tuesday night.

The Trojans got off to a 2-0 lead, but Blythewood (12-3, 5-0) countered with a 10-run second inning that put the game out of reach. The Bengals had 10 hits in the inning, including a 3-run Anna Fridriksson home run and a 2-run Lauren Hardy homer.

Blythewood picked up two more runs in the second inning, and Kalei Swanier’s 2-run home run was the highlight of the Bengals’ third inning. 5-run fourth.

Josie Smythe pitched all five innings, giving up four hits and walking 10, but also striking out 10.

In the loss at Lexington, Ford was one walk short of delivering a perfect 5-inning game against the Bengals. She struck out every Blythewood batter—15—and even had an RBI double to help her cause.

Blythewood plays host to Spring Valley Tuesday.
