She (didn’t) Pick ‘Em

BLYTHEWOOD – U Pick ‘Em winner Nancy Hughey said that while she plans to spend the money, it was her husband who made the picks that won it.

“I like to watch the games with him, but he’s the one who follows them,” she said.

Philip Reese, owner of Reese’s Plants in Blythewood and sponsor of The Voice’s 2021 College Bowl U Pick ‘Em contest, presented $200 to Hughey of Blythewood, this year’s lucky winner. While several readers picked 10 of the 14 bowl winners correctly, Hughey was the only one to correctly pick 11. Two of the original 16 bowl games were dropped from The Voice’s contest because of Covid-related changes in the games.

The Alabama-Cincinnati game had the most correct reader picks at 95%. South Carolina-North Carolina and Purdue-Tennessee had the lowest correctly picked outcomes, both with only 29% of readers choosing the winning teams.

How does she plan to spend her winnings?

“I’m not sure yet,” she said. “Maybe I’ll give some of it to a food bank here in town and maybe buy myself a DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) pin.” She also has a newly adopted (rescued) pup that will probably figure in the $200 winnings.

Hughey sad the win was a big surprise.

“I don’t think I’ve ever won anything,” she said with a smile.

Now she has.
