Letter: Why do our taxes have to go up?

Since giving up Netflix and Amazon viewing, I have saved many dollars by watching You Tube. My favorite program is The Fairfield County Council Meetings. Recently they displayed many reasons why the public doesn’t waste time speaking anymore. Those who do speak are genuinely concerned about the direction that Fairfield County is headed. (Higher taxes and poor services) Some are concerned to the point of being removed from being able to finish venting their concerns.

The leader of the future “Apocalypse” tends to take it all in stride and when the truth starts to come out, he quotes Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Quoting important figures in history is in itself, a smoke screen. When community members hear famous quotes, they think “Well this person is smart. He must know what’s right”. This could not be any further from the truth. Great public “servants” in office take the majority’s consensus on a proposed project and do “research” before making a decision spending millions of dollars. Not this group. They should just put up a dart board to help decide and at least give the concerned citizens a chance for the right thing to happen.

A wonderful person sent me a famous quote to help me through the next few months and it goes as follows:

“As long as the world shall last there will be wrongs (sound familiar County Council?) And if no man objected and no man rebelled, those wrongs will last forever.”– Clarence Darrow

I have a saying also:

“We can listen to some of the people, some of the time. We can listen to all of the people none of the time. But we can waste taxpayers’ money all of the time.”

If anybody really cares about living and enjoying Fairfield County, there must be a change at the next election. I do not believe that the few people and organizations who are benefiting from the council’s idiotic decisions outnumber the citizens who want them out.

Vote! Vote! Vote!
