Bengal softball heads to postseason

LEXINGTON – In getting ready for Wednesday’s home matchup against Nation Ford to open the District 4 upper state tournament, Blythewood finished out the regular season with a 6-5 loss at River Bluff in eight innings April 27, and a 2-0 shutout victory over A.C. Flora Monday.

Blythewood (16-6) trailed River Bluff 4-3 going into the top of the sixth inning, but got a run in that frame when Lauren Hardy’s 2-out double to centerfield scored Kylie Sanders.

The Bengals took a 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh when Maya Van Zyl reached base on an error, scoring Haley McCoy.

The Gators got a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 5 and force extra innings.

After the Bengals went down in order in the top of the eighth, Kallie Earlington hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the inning to seal the win for the Gators.

Against the Falcons, Lauren Hardy pitched a complete-game one-hit shutout. She struck out 10 and walked two.

Haley McCoy led the Bengals at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double.

Win or lose Wednesday, Blythewood plays at home Friday night, playing host to either No.2 seed Dorman or No.3 seed T.L. Hanna.
