Griffin standouts head to state meet

HOPKINS – Though Fairfield Central’s track and field teams didn’t qualify to participate in the 3A state meet, the program will be represented by four individual athletes and the boys’ 4×800 relay team.

Mosley will join Derek Cammon, David Rivera and Hank White to compete in the 4×800 relay.

The 3A State Meet will be held at Lower Richland High School on May 20.

The Griffin teams ended their run at last Saturday’s Upper State meet. The Griffin girls finished 10th of 18 schools, and the boys finished 19th out of 20 teams.

Holmes snagged first place finishes in the 100m dash (12.01) and 200m dash (24.84). She also placed fourth in long jump at 16-0.

English finished in the 10 spot in the 100m dash with a time of 13.14, and placed sixth in javelin at 90-11.

Other highlights for the girls’ at the meet were Tanisha English’s 16th place finish in shot put (27-8) and 18th place finish in high jump (4-4). Teairra McDuffie snagged a 21st place finish in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:40.85.

Joshua Mosley finished second in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:56.42.

Jai Boyd placed 9th in long jump (21-1) to qualify for state. He was just short of qualifying in high jump with a 14th place finish at 5-8.

The boys’ relay team qualified for the state meet with a 10th place finish at upper state (9:01.25).

Just short of qualifying for state were Derek Cammon (finished 8th in 800 meter run at 2:19.21) and Hank White (19th place in 1600 meter run at 5:26.55).
