Industrial zoning sought for 392 acres on Hwy 34

FAIRFIELD COUNTY – A request to have a 392.49 acre parcel rezoned from RD-1 (Rural Residential District) to I-1 (Industrial District) will be heard by the Fairfield County Planning Commission on Thursday, May 26, at 6 p.m.

The property, owned by Gum Springs LLC (applicant), is located about 2.5 miles west of Interstate-77 on SC Highway 34, between Syrup Mill Road and Gum Springs Road, in Winnsboro.

The property is designated by the county’s Comprehensive Plan as being in an industrial corridor, according to the Director of Economic Development Ty Davenport.

“Breakthrough Beverage is nearby and the property has water, sewer and natural gas, so it’s utility ready for industry,” Davenport said. “The property owner is just rezoning it to get it ready for an industrial user if one comes along.”

The general public is invited to attend and will be allowed to speak for or against the rezoning.

If a citizen wishes to send in a written statement as their public comment concerning the rezoning, such statements must be receive by the Clerk to Council by noon on Wednesday, May 25. Statements can be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to: PO Drawer 60, Winnsboro, SC 29180, attention Kim Roberts.

The meeting will be held in council chambers in the Fairfield County government complex at 350 Columbia Road, Winnsboro, SC 29180. For questions, call 803-815-4078.
